Happy Valentine’s Day - Saturday, February 14th

February 9th, 2009

Valentine’s Day - There’s no better time to return the favor of unwavering love and dedication that our pets give to us day after day, year after year.  Who else eagerly waits for us to come home?  Who else shows us their true feelings?  Who else gives so much of themselves to please us?  Our pets offer us life lessons in patience, humility, and the real  meaning of happiness.  This Valentine’s Day, let’s give them something they really want in return - our time and attention (and a few really great Valentine treats.)  Happy Valentine’s Day to you and all the furry loves of your life.

Our Gingerbread Dog House at Yoder’s in Shipshewana, Indiana

November 25th, 2008

This week at From Scratch Pet Bakery, we’ve been busy creating a unique gingerbread dog house.  The gauntlet had been thrown down by Crystal, owner of The Pampered Pet Boutique in Shipshewana, Indiana, for Yoder’s Department Store Annual Gingerbread House Contest.

We decided that nothing less than a truly edible dog house, (one that real dogs could eat), would do.  No candy canes or gum drops here.  So we utilized healthy, natural, human-grade ingredients to assemble our dog house masterpiece.  From its tiled roof to its low prowling kitties, to the beautiful poinsettia (also made from dog-safe ingredients) hanging over the arched doorway, it’s a house that any dog would feel good about eating.  See it now on display at Yoder’s Department Store in Shipshewana, Indiana, until January 5th, 2009.

New Items for Your Dog & Cat In Store Now

November 25th, 2008

The wonderful stuff we found at the H.H. Backer Show is in store now at the pet bakery. There are new toys, new pet aromatherapy products, natural shampoos, and pet bath candles.  (No kidding!)  These are the hottest, in-demand products for dogs and cats.  They soothe and relax the pet and the pet parent.  The herbal skin cream is especially effective for minor skin irritations such as rashes and hot spots.
For sports’ fans the team jerseys, collars/leashes, and bandanas are in.  Teams include Notre Dame, Purdue, Michigan, OH State, Colts, da Bears, and Bulls. Team them up with your dog’s name on a personalized football treat and you’ve got a winning team!  And a great gift idea for a friend and his dog.

Have you ever read a greeting card written from your dog’s point of view?  Well now you can with DogSpeak greeting cards.  These clever cards deliver the right message with candid charm.  You’ll enjoy giving these dog greeting cards, as much as they’ll enjoy receiving them.

As for the rest of the new items, you’ll just have to come in.  The store is decked out for the holiday season with new sights and smells - just waiting for you to discover.

Even Grown Men Can Celebrate a Dog Birthday!

September 23rd, 2008

A gentleman came to From Scratch Pet Bakery the other day.  In a hushed voice, he said he came to look at “the dog cakes”.  He seemed a little embarrassed.  We reassured him it was OK to get your dog a dog birthday cake; afterall, he is your best friend - right?  Of course!  Yes, grown men do celebrate a dog birthday.  Well there were too many cake possibilities to make a hasty decision.  So since his dog’s birthday is in two weeks, he has a little time to think it over.  Although he was leaning towards the banana mutt flavor.

From Scratch Pet Bakery Busy Creating Dog Birthday Cakes

September 21st, 2008

This past week at From Scratch Pet Bakery was busy fulfilling dog birthday cake orders.  The mini dog birthday cakes, with the bones in the middle, look great in their mini cake boxes.  Flavors for the dog birthday cakes included peanut butter, carrot, and banana.  The most popular dog cake flavor is definitely peanut butter.  We created a mini peanut butter dog birthday cake especially for “Mason” and his owner was so excited with the finished product.  Mason’s dog cake featured yellow crowns and blue bones all around the sides.  Encircling the top were mini paw prints and of course, Mason’s name.

The gratulations dog cake for Sam was a hit.  Sam, once a terror of a terrier, had graduated from obedience school and was in need of a dog cake to celebrate the occasion!  His owner came to From Scratch Pet Bakery for something healthy and really special.  And since Sam was throwing a dog party, he needed a large doggy cake.  So we created the giant party bone doggy cake for him.  It’s a 10″ x 14″ bone-shaped cake covered in white yogurt frosting and highlighted with colors of blue and brown.  A little terrier, just like Sam, is sprinting across the top with glee at the words “Congrats Sam”.  A blue, green, and brown striped ribbon adds the finishing touch to this special dog cake.
